Description

    • 1 cup (2 sticks; 226g) unsalted butter, softened
    • 1¾ cups (375g) packed light or dark brown sugar
    • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
    • 2½ teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 2½ cups (350g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • ¾ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Optional Add-ins:
    • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
    • Chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans
    • Spices such as cinnamon or nutmeg for warm undertones

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, melt butter and mix it with brown sugar and salt until smooth.
    • Beat in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Shape the Dough:
    • Use a cookie scoop or ¼ cup measuring scoop to form dough balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 9–11 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through for even baking. The cookies are done when the edges are golden brown.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
