Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8 or 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper and grease the sides.
- Cream Butter & Sugar: In a mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Egg & Vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla until well combined.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Alternate Dry & Wet Additions: Gradually add ⅓ of the flour mixture, followed by half of the milk and Dr Pepper. Repeat, finishing with the remaining flour mixture.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 27-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Prepare Frosting: While the cake bakes, heat butter, cocoa powder, and Dr Pepper in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Frost & Serve: Pour the warm frosting over the warm cake. Let it set for a few minutes before slicing.
